We are very proud to say that our magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system arrived safely on the premises of School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, on 15th July 2015. This is one of the key achievements of GlowBrain, whose aim is to establish a new imaging platform for advancing preclinical neurological research in Croatia. Our new MRI is manufactured by Bruker BioSpin GmbH and goes by the name of BioSpec 70/20 USR. Weighing in at 3 tons and delivering a magnetic field of 7 tesla, it is the first one of its kind in the region.
The core idea of GlowBrain project is based on combined biomaterials and stem cell applications in the brain, monitored by combined bioluminescent imaging (BLI) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This research will be done in a brand new facility, made possible by joint efforts of GlowBrain and University of Zagreb School of Medicine. After a year and a half of planning, sketching and preparing, we are currently in the last phases of construction and by autumn 2015 the Laboratory for Regenerative Neuroscience should be ready.
